Meridian is an open-source browser that runs on your computer. There is no Meridian account, no Meridian server and no telemetry. We don't collect, see or sell any of your data.
What stays on your computer
- Your tabs, spaces, history, favorites, chats, settings and logins are stored only on your computer, in Meridian's profile folder.
- Cookies and keys are encrypted with your system keychain.
- Importing from Arc reads Arc's files on your computer. Nothing is uploaded.
What goes over the network
- The websites you visit, like in any browser.
- The ad and tracker blocker downloads its public filter lists.
- The installer and the download page talk to GitHub, where Meridian's releases are hosted.
- Once a day Meridian asks GitHub for the number of its latest release, to tell you when there's a new version. Nothing about you or your browsing is sent.
AI features
AI features only run when you use them, and only with the AI you connected yourself: a Claude, OpenAI or Gemini API key, an AI app you installed, or a local model (Ollama, LM Studio) that never leaves your computer.
- When you ask something, your question — and the page's text if you choose to include it — goes to that provider, under that provider's terms and privacy policy. Meridian doesn't keep a copy anywhere else.
- In the welcome tour, if you allow it, the names of your installed apps and Arc spaces (and anything you type about yourself) go to your AI so it can suggest a setup. Nothing changes until you confirm.
- Agents can only use the browser if you turn that on in Settings → AI, at the access level you choose.
Children
Meridian isn't directed at children under 13, and it collects no data from anyone.
